Doxycycline - Important safety information
Doxycycline must never be used by a pregnant or breastfeeding woman, as it has been reported to cause serious health effects in both nursing and unborn babies.
Doxycycline can affect the bone and tooth development when it passes into breast milk and gets absorbed into the baby’s organism. It is likely to cause permanent teeth discoloration in an unborn baby if taken by a pregnant woman. This drug has been reported to make birth control pills less effective. Make sure you use a second reliable form of birth control your doctor recommended to avoid getting pregnant. Doxycycline is not supposed to be taken if you are allergic to this drug or any of the following ones: demeclocycline, minocycline, or tetracycline. The fact of being diagnosed with liver or kidney disease must be reported to your health care provider as a dose adjustment may be required. It’s important that you keep taking doxycycline for as long as prescribed and avoid using too much of it. An overdose of doxycycline can be dangerous and needs to be reported to your local emergency center as soon as possible. Some medications you are taking can affect the success of your treatment. Make sure you let your doctor know if you are using any of the following: products that contain bismuth subsalicylate, cholesterol-lowering medications, isotretinoin, tretinoin, antacid, and any minerals (iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium etc).
